Daniel Magliocco Unquestionably one of the most important showcases for Swiss wine, Vinea brings together the region’s wine merchants to honour a selected winery, taste its products, share among themselves and discuss topics related to wine.
On the first weekend in September every year, downtown Sierre’s wide main street is transformed into a major wine display featuring more than 1,500 wines made from thirty grape varieties.
Visitors are invited to come and discover local grape varieties such as Amigne, Petite Arvine and Cornalin, as well as the noble rot sweet white wines of Valais! (www.vinea.ch) Part of Vinea, the Mondial du Pinot Noir competition recognizes the world’s best wines made from this celebrated varietal. A member of the Fédération mondiale des grands concours internationaux de Vins (VinoFed), this competition has built a solid international reputation in attracting more than 1,000 wines from twenty countries for evaluation by a jury of wine professionals. (www.mondial-du-pinot-noir.com) Chamoson, the leading wine-producing commune in Valais, invites wine connoisseurs to Caveau Chamosard, where they can taste a wide range of quality wines.
This commune-operated cellar offers the products of forty wineries and merchants selected and evaluated by the wine-tasting commission.
